‘Fear’, does this word sound something to you? Does it take you the past experiences which you can confine into a word ‘Fear’? In our day to day life, very often we witness the situations and sensation which we can generalize into a word ‘fear’. Fear of losing our job; fear of losing your lover; fear of getting humiliated; fear of getting less grades; fear of choosing a wrong decision, the causes of fear is diverse but the subjectivity of fear remains intact. Why do our feet trembles; Why do we fear to do new? If we dig deeply we find that our desire, our necessities, our possessiveness and our sense of inability provide nutrition to the thorny plant of fear. Then, does it mean that we should have no desire; we should have no attachments;
To my mind, the object of fear can be divided into four categories.
1st type is permanent fear, like fear of death. Why am I calling it permanent as it can make you fear at any time, at any place and at any level? But the commonness of this fear has made it a forgotten word and only who want to be yogi, willingly or miraculously remember this fear to understand the insignificance and mortality of life.
2nd type is public fear. Have you ever seen the trembling foot at the podium? Have you felt the pain and sufferings, people endure just for the fear of public’s opinion? A public fear can disastrously deteriorate the truth. Then our actions are determined by other’s reaction. This type of fear emanates from the sense of inferiority. A feeling of uniqueness, individuality can only makes you to conquer this fear. A happy life, a successful life needs the abolition of this fear.
3rd is fear of attachments, like fear of losing your lover. We get attached to someone in such a level that his/her separation creates a void in our being. We cannot tolerate the gap.
The only medication to this fear, I feel, is faith and unconditioned love. Love to your partner, relatives and faith in existence can let you free from fear of attachment.
4th is fear of survival. We fear for food, for shelter and for security. The unavailability of basic need drives into this fear. This fear can only be removed by fulfilling the basic needs.
Now, Dear reader! Just contemplate which fear has major role in your life. Which fear drives you into suffering? Which fear makes you insane?
Just ask yourself , is it not the public fear?
